Rush, Double Attack, Banish: Keywords That Win Games and How to Play Around Them

The current card pool has 93 Rush cards, 32 Double Attack cards and 24 Banish cards. Each one changes the math of a turn, and each has a counter play.

Keywords are the shortcuts the game uses for its most dangerous effects. Knowing the count of each in the pool tells you how often to expect them; knowing the counter play tells you what to hold. These are the ones that decide games, with the number of cards that carry each in current sets.

The keywords

  • Rush (93 cards). Attacks the turn it is played. Play around it by keeping a Blocker untapped on the opponent's big DON!! turns.
  • Double Attack (32 cards). Takes two Life on a hit. At 2 Life it is lethal; block it with anything.
  • Banish (24 cards). Sends the Life card to trash instead of hand. You lose the card and the Trigger; always worth a chump block.
  • Blocker (374 cards). Redirects an attack to itself. The most common keyword, and the reason Unblockable exists.
  • Unblockable (11 cards). Ignores Blockers. Counter is the only answer.
  • Trigger (31 cards). An effect when the card is taken from Life. Free value for the defender, and the reason Banish is feared.

Practise the reads

The fastest way to learn the counter plays is to face them repeatedly. MugiPocket's Practice Arena plays every keyword with the real rules, including the Double Attack at 1 Life ruling and Banish trashing the Life card, so the decisions you practise are the ones you will make at the table.

Keyword counts from the current card pool as of 20 September 2026.

Questions people ask

What does Banish do in One Piece?

Banish sends the Life card taken by the attack to the trash instead of the hand, so the defender loses the card and any Trigger on it.

What does Double Attack do in One Piece?

A hit from a Double Attack card takes two Life cards instead of one; at 2 Life it is lethal.

Can you block a Rush attack?

Yes. Rush only lets a Character attack the turn it is played; Blockers and Counters work normally against it.
